WHAT TO EXPECT

YOUR EXPERIENCE

One of our team members will greet you and review the necessary paperwork to be completed in our comfortable reception area. You will then proceed into our oversized treatment rooms, with ample space for anyone accompanying you to your visit.  We take the time to understand your questions and concerns before beginning the diagnostic process. After taking x-rays or a 3-D scan, your doctor will thoroughly diagnosis your problem and discuss all of the available treatment options. If treatment is decided upon, we will make every effort to complete the procedure on the same day if preferred. Patient comfort is a priority. Most of our patients are surprised at how fast and comfortable the procedure is, with many even falling asleep in the chair.

We pride ourselves on patient education. There will be no surprises before, during, or after treatment. After your treatment, we will communicate with your primary dentist, providing a thorough report that describes the procedure and recommendations for the final restoration of your tooth. Necessary x-rays and photos will also be shared. We are always accessible after treatment should you have any questions or concerns.

Your Experience

BEFORE ENDODONTIC TREATMENT

This procedure will be performed by one of West Palm Beach's most experienced and trusted endodontists, Dr. Boner or Dr. Elliott. Your endodontist will use local anesthesia during the procedure to reduce your discomfort. Continue all medications for blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid problems and any other conditions as recommended by your physician. If there is a question, please call our office prior to your appointment.

Please eat a full breakfast or lunch as applicable.

If you have been advised by your physician to pre-medicate with antibiotics prior to dental treatment, please do so one hour before your scheduled visit. Please contact our office prior to your appointment if you have any questions.

HOME CARE INSTRUCTIONS

There are usually no restrictions after the procedure concerning driving or returning to work. A doctor is available for consultation at all times should a problem arise after your treatment.

Your tooth and surrounding gum tissue may be slightly tender for several days as a result of the previous condition of your tooth and manipulation during treatment. This tenderness is normal and is no cause for alarm. Do not chew food on the affected side until your endodontic therapy is completed and your tooth is covered with a protective restoration provided by your restorative dentist. You may continue your regular dental hygiene regimen. Discomfort may be alleviated by taking ibuprofen, aspirin, or acetaminophen, as directed by your doctor following the procedure.

AFTER ENDODONTIC TREATMENT

After endodontic treatment has been completed, the root canal system has been permanently sealed. However, the outer surface is sealed with a temporary restoration. A follow-up restoration must be placed to protect your tooth against fracture and decay. A complete report will be sent to your restorative dentist. Please contact him/her to schedule an appointment for restoration two to four weeks after your endodontic treatment.

Be aware that your tooth is more prone to fracture immediately after endodontic treatment. You should chew on the opposite side until your restorative dentist has placed a core build-up and a protective restoration, usually a crown. If your tooth’s strength is seriously compromised, your endodontist may place a post and core build-up inside the tooth at the time of the root canal. Your restorative dentist and endodontist will determine the appropriate restoration to best protect your tooth.
